Thanks for sitting down with Confidence Daily! Tell us about what you do.
I am the Founder of Daily Polished--a members-only discovery platform for beauty and wellness lovers. The platform gives emerging brands the spotlight and the opportunity to be discovered, and our members get to discover and try brands at 50% off retail. The annual membership fee, which comes to $5 a month, gives the members the opportunity to buy full-size products at half off. I make sure that it is clear that Daily Polished is not a discount platform, or a subscription box, but rather viewed as a discovery place with benefits!
I created the platform for two reasons: to help to reduce wasteful small-size packaging and pass the wholesale pricing to consumers to try something new. Brands avoid extra production costs and create a plastic waste of sample-size products often found in subscription boxes, and consumers get the full-size brand experience at 50% off.
How do you cultivate confidence?
I believe in myself and my ideas, and I keep going forward even when others doubt them. Being confident doesn’t mean being arrogant. I think it is good to revisit and question ideas and constantly improve them. I believe that confidence is something we are born with, but we are also not limited to acquiring it.
What does being a woman-owned business mean to you?
Women-owned and run businesses are the best proof that women can do absolutely anything.
What was your business origin story?
Daily Polished was established to give emerging beauty and wellness brands a stage to stand solo, and shine; It allows them to avoid high marketing/brand awareness costs as well as being overshadowed by well-established and well-funded brands. As a Founder of the emerging beauty brand Bawdy--best known for its original butt mask--I experienced firsthand all the challenges, including lack of visibility, awareness, money, etc...the list is long hahaha. I also have been scammed by many so-called marketing experts that promised things and never delivered anything except disappointment and frustration. The mission is to also eliminate wasteful sample size packaging and give consumers the freedom to choose what they want and need and get a full brand experience.
Okay, coming up with a great idea and actually taking the steps to become an entrepreneur and launch your company are two very different things. How did you know it was time to take the leap?
There is never a perfect time to take the idea and turn it into a business. I believe that there is always a space for innovation, and if your idea is creative, unique, and innovative, you should go for it!
When I launched Bawdy’s butt masks, there was nothing like that in the market and people were shocked, both positively and negatively, and both reactions were good for the brand as you want people to talk. Daily Polished is different, people were not given this kind of experience before, and I believe it will take time to convert the minds of sample-size lovers and subscription box lovers to understand the concept and mission behind Daily Polished.
Sometimes entrepreneurship can be a hard and isolating journey. How do you stay confident along the way?
I take time to take care of myself and my body. I was a gymnast for years and movement became my life. I also founded Tonique Daily, a workout method that I created and shared with other women through toniquefitness.com; It keeps me strong and gives me that much-needed injection of energy and confidence. And it helps me both physically and mentally; I feel invincible each time I finish it.
I also make sure to spend quality time with my family and a small but amazing group of friends. I also LOVE cooking and while I cook I re-watch Seinfeld, Family Guy and SNL, anything that makes me laugh.
I do focus on work and ideas but when I go to sleep, I switch to my dream mode, thinking about sailing and surfing, which feels like a beautiful escape.
If you had to list three traits or attributes that have been pivotal for your success, what would they be?
Forward Thinker. Disciplined. Persistence.
What's one myth you'd like to debunk about your line of work?
Launching a successful beauty brand is easy.
What advice would you give to burgeoning entrepreneurs?
Don’t replicate ideas because it worked for others. Instead, build something original, unique, something that you believe will change the industry and open the eyes of the consumer.
What words do you live by?
Action, not words.
Any final words of wisdom?
Keep going forward.
